Zendaya may be filming a movie off the coast of Sicily, but her off-duty ensemble has universal appeal.
On March 28, Zendaya was photographed on the island of Favignana, Italy, where she is currently shooting Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, co-starring Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and her very own fiancé, Tom Holland. During a break in her schedule, the 28-year-old actor was spotted taking in the sights while dressed in the ultimate spring uniform.
As faux fur weather makes way for random pockets of sun and bursts of rain, Zendaya has pieced together the sartorial cheat code for transitional dressing. In lieu of some travelers’ favored sneaker and maxi dress combo, Zendaya opted for a series of classic wardrobe staples everyone should have in their closet.
Starting with a pair of light-wash jeans, Zendaya kept things simple with a black sweater and matching trench coat. The On Cloud ambassador left her sneakers back at the hotel room, finishing off her look with a comfortable black boot and Tashi-approved cate-eye sunglasses (I still maintain that Challengers was robbed at the Oscars).
While the description of the ensemble might sound boring, the key to this look is Zendaya’s natural air of nonchalance. Her straight-leg jeans are a relaxed silhouette—not baggy, but not quite fitted—and her trench coat is kept open and unbelted. She doesn’t bother with many accessories, nor does she seem concerned over the scuffs on her boots or the unfinished hem of her coat.
Zendaya’s black sweater may be Louis Vuitton and her sunglasses Bottega Veneta, but everything feels lived-in and effortless, somehow including her massive engagement ring worn on unpolished fingers. The same goes for the actor’s loose, undone waves reminiscent of a ’90s Julia Roberts protagonist.
