With 500-plus honorees over more than three decades, Glamourâs Women of the Year Awards have celebrated countless famous womenâactors, activists, musicians, politicians, and moreâwho were also mothers. (News reporter Jane Pauley was a mother of three when she was honored as part of our inaugural class of Women of the Year in 1990.) Weâve also honored âregularâ moms (including servicewomen and scientists) who became household names after stepping into the national spotlight. (Former teacher Elizabeth Glazer, also a 1990 Woman of the Year, was honored for her work as an AIDS activist. Though she died four years later, the organization she founded, The Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation, continues to fund the study of juvenile HIV and AIDS.)
This yearâalongside the rest of our 2024 Women of the Yearâwe want to spotlight a different type of mom: A mom who doesnât have a Pulitzer or an Academy Award. A mom who hasnât met the President or been interviewed by Oprah. We want to celebrate a game-changing mom who the world doesnât know aboutâyet. Maybe sheâs an office manager, a lawyer, or a stay-at-home momâbut regardless of her job title, she’s made a difference in her state or her town or on the PTA of her childrenâs school. Maybe sheâs your mom.
Glamourâs first-ever âYour Mom of the Year Award,â presented by Volvo, will spotlight a mother whoâs made a difference without Hollywood connections, without millions of social media followers, without millions in the bank to fund her cause.
If you know a mom who deserves recognition, tell us about her. She could be your own motherâor your sister, friend, or partner. Whatever your relationship is with her, sheâs someone who youâve seen make a remarkable difference in the world around her. Sheâs probably lost sleep, lost hope, and fought like hellâshe might still be fighting.
When we announce this yearâs Women of the Year in early Octoberâahead of the Women of the Year Awards on October 8 in New York Cityâweâll also announce the âYour Mom of the Year Awardâ honoree on our site and social. Below youâll find a form where you can nominate a mom you love. We look forward to hearing about a diverse array of amazing mothersâand sharing one of their stories in October.
