Highrise passes $250M revenue milestone by empowering player creation



Online creation platform Highrise announced today that it has surpassed $250 million in revenue across its marketplaces since 2019. According to the company, some of the main sources of that revenue is from resales at its in-game Secondary Market and the Highrise Ideas design program, which allows users to submit their own designs and earn revenue themselves.

Highrise’s Ideas program allows users to submit “napkin doodles” of in-game cosmetics such as wigs, clothing and accessories in an open contest. The community votes on which design they’d like to see made into real items, and the team turns these winning doodles into functional items. These items are only available for a limited time on the Primary Market, driving their value up on the Secondary Market. According to Pocket Worlds, Highrise’s creator, multiple users earned around $3,000 for their designs submitted this year.

Anton Bernstein, CEO of Pocket Worlds, said in a statement, “We created Highrise to be a safe, accessible, and exciting space for self-expression. Our users wear outfits in-game that reflect their true selves, whether attending an in-game event or hanging out in the virtual café. The Ideas program has been a huge success, and players who don’t code or even consider themselves artists have benefited financially from their ideas.”

Highrise has increased its investment in easy-to-use creator tools this year, with Pocket Worlds launching Highrise Studio a few months ago. As the name suggests, Studio offers a set of user-friendly development tools enabling players to build in Unity and then deploy their creations into Highrise with a single click. Creators can earn further income from their worlds and items through the Creator Exchange Program, which pays out for sales and engagement time.
